The state university of Ganja is located in the heart of the historical city of Ganja. Ganja is one of the biggest cities of Republic of Azerbaijan. This city is located in the west of the country near the borders of Armenia and north of the Qarabagh region, which was a state of controversy between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

This university was established in 1938. At that time, the university was mainly acting as a teachers’ institute for the city and region of Ganja. A couple of years later, the university was expanded and some new courses were added. Since the year 2000, the Ganja institute has been renamed as the Ganja state university. Nowadays, the main campus of the university is located in the city of Ganja and almost all of the buildings and facilities are located there.
