Azerbaijan Technical University is one of the leading universities in the field of technical education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, which was established in 1950 under the name of the Polytechnic Institute of the Republic of Azerbaijan with 4 faculties in the capital Baku. University faculties operated in buildings located at various addresses from 1950 to 1955. The university with all its faculties was moved to the current building in 1955. The combination of the most beautiful Eastern and Western architectural styles of the beautiful university building provides all the necessary facilities for students to acquire extensive knowledge. Two new higher technical colleges in Azerbaijan, “University of Architecture and Construction” and “Ganja Institute of Technology”, were established on the basis of Azerbaijan Technical University in 1975.

Since 1978, Azerbaijan Technical University has started extensive training of specialists for the various republics of the Soviet Union and a number of countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America. More than 12,000 students studied at the university during that period. The university was awarded the Challenge of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Education of the USSR and received a first-class monetary award for its achievements in the fields of education – methodology and science – technology.

Since 1991, this university has been named as Azerbaijan Technical University. At present, specialists, scientific staff, in 28 directions and more than 70 specialties in the fields of machine building, metallurgy, information and computer technology, electrical engineering, telecommunications, transportation, engineering trade fields are being prepared.

More than 600 instructors, including 68 professors, 332 associate professors, PhD, PhD candidates, work in 46 chairs of these faculties. More than 50 domestic and foreign experts are conducting scientific research to obtain a scientific degree. There are two specialized academic councils with academic degrees in different fields of technical sciences at the university.

The scientific achievements of the university are published in the scientific-technical journal under the name of “scientific works”. The university library is provided with more than 700,000 books and reading rooms, as well as about 20 multimedia halls with more than 400 personal computers, multimedia rooms, specialized laboratories for students and staff. Azerbaijan Technical University cooperates with the United Nations, UNESCO, TRACECA, other relevant structures of international organizations and many foreign universities. Citizens of more than 40 foreign countries have been educated at the university at different times, and now, they are still being educated. More than 6,000 undergraduate and graduate students who will be able to solve all the problems of modern science and technology will be trained in lecture halls and laboratories equipped with modern facilities according to the credit system of the curriculum set by the Bologna Process. Graduates of Azerbaijan Technical University are developing various fields of industry in many countries of the world. They successfully managed factories, works, large industrial complexes, government committees and companies. University graduate was transferred to the Republic of Azerbaijan in 1982-1988, 2 graduates have served in different terms of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan and 5 graduates have worked as the First Deputy Prime Minister. Currently, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan are graduates of the Azerbaijan Technical University.
