With 90 years of history, the Azerbaijan state university of physical education and sports is one of the few specialized higher education centers in the field of sports in the country of Azerbaijan. The university has gained valuable experiences in its relatively long history. It has educated more than 30000 students in its active years and has learned noteworthy facts about the process of education. They have gone through a reform process in the last decade and adopted a new and modern approach towards physical education.

The university was first established as a center for educating the P.E. teachers of Azerbaijani schools. However, today the university is not just educating teachers, but sports and P.E. specialists who can ensure a healthier lifestyle in the Azerbaijan society.

The university offers courses in Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD levels to its students. There are 4 programs at the Bachelor’s level, 6 programs at the Master’s level, 3 of which are English-taught and 3 are taught in Azerbaijani, and 2 PhD program.

This university is a medium size university with about 5000 students currently studying there. There are also about 250 academic staff employed by the university. The student-teacher ratio of this university is 1 to 18.

Advantages

The main advantage of this university is surely its great facilities. Here, students can find any sort of sports halls and fields they wish. There are several halls for wrestling, boxing, volleyball, gymnastics and etc. There is a football stadium inside the campus too which was built in 1970s.

The university campus is also a very modern complex which has been recently renovated. All the facilities of the university, including the library, classrooms, dinning halls and other facilities have been reconstructed and rebuilt to create a comfortable and convenient environment for the students.

The international relations of this university can also be considered one of its advantages. The university has signed various contracts with many universities in the region and all around the world. Mevlana program is program by which Turkish universities can exchange students. Erasmus plus is another exchange program by which students could be transferred among all European universities. Azerbaijan state university of physical education and sports is one of the active members of these two programs.

Student life

Various organizations are active in this university, all of which are trying to make students’ lives more convenient and fruitful. The student youth organization, an organization established by the order of the president of Azerbaijan and which exists in all Azerbaijani universities, is responsible for most the social and cultural activities of the university. One of the events that this organization is responsible for holding is the “getting to know week” events for the freshmen and freshwomen.

Besides these events and the official organizations, there ae about 10 student clubs in different fields at this university. Students can join one of these clubs and enjoy some leisure time with their friends, doing something they truly desire.

The university campus is located at the heart of the city of Baku and it is going to provide lots of incredible opportunities for its students. The campus is in a walking distance from the Heyder aliev cultural center. Lots of cafés and restaurants can also be found in this area, which is going to make students lives much easier.

The university does not provide dormitories for students inside the campus, however, there are different private dorms that students can rent and take abode in.
